the wheel of the year keeps turning
another installment of a very sporadic newsletter from jenny lane

Second verse, same as the first: this newsletter will bear a striking resemblance to the most recent two that came before it, but my newsletter habit is so sporadic that I’m counting on you not remembering much about the last two newsletters. Also while the headings might be the same (new job! two new film festivals! etc.) the content is entirely different. So, we embrace the cycles of things and proceed apace, agreeing — I hope — that some progress is better than no progress. Happy 2024, beloveds.

![]() | In 2023, I kept track of (almost) every word I wrote in a Google Sheet, and at the end of the year, I compiled the data into this handy little infographic. This is just the first half of what is truly a 2-year project: I intend to use the data from last year to try to improve my productivity this year. To that end, I’ve created a new tracker for the new year, and I wanted to share it with you in case you wanted to track your own writing productivity. Click here to access a copy of my 2024 Writing Tracker. Please make sure to copy it over to your own drive before using it. If you like it and want to buy me a coffee, click the button below. |
Two More Film Festivals!
I’m thrilled to report that TO FALL IN LOVE has been accepted into two more film festivals. You can catch it at New Filmmakers Los Angeles February 5-10, and at the Oceanside International Film Festival February 20-24, and at New Filmmakers Los Angeles. Click here for more information, and to view the trailer. | ![]() |
New New Job
![]() | I’m super excited to announce that I am joining audiobook platform Pocket FM as a Creative Lead! I’m really looking forward to expanding my experience into audio storytelling, though I will continue to focus on serialized fiction as I have been over the last five years or so. HMU at [email protected] if you’re interested in collaborating (as ever, I anticipate that I will have many ghostwriting and/or freelance story development opportunities) though it might be a few weeks before I am fully up to speed. |
The Writing Wheel of the Year

A Few Pages from my Book of Shadows
I’m writing this in a Starbucks and there’s a guy at the table next to me working on his laptop and he is — quite literally — typing with his arms stretched out in front of him, forehead to the table. And metaphorically? Same.
Writing has felt like a slog lately. You know that liminal time between Christmas and the New Year when everyone stays in pajamas all day and eats too much cheese? That’s how I feel from Christmas until my birthday on January 11th. I always feel this way, but it’s only been in the last year that I’ve identified the pattern….
